Welcome to USM Formula Student!
Every year, University of Strathclyde Motorsport design, build, market and race a single-seat bike-engined racing car as part of the global Formula Student initiative, a series of international competitions focussed on developing engineering talent in a practical, competitive high-octane environment.
The USM team is made up of students from across the University's Engineering and Business faculties who devote their time and energy to ensuring USM continue to compete at a high level both on the racetrack and off.
We would like to take the time to thank all of our partners and sponsors for their continued support - without them there would be no USM, and we are extremely grateful for the opportunity they have given us.
It's been a long time coming, but at last we've found time to put together the first issue of the USM13 newsletter. Have a read!
Banner display experts Discount Displays have come on board as USM's latest partner and will be providing banner stands and promotional display stands for the 2013 season. "We have had a long involvement in motorsport, from the Schools Greenpower Electic Car Challenge all the way to supplying displays for Formula 1 teams and are delighted to support USM." - Tim Fuller, Discount Displays
USM are proud to confirm we will be competing in both the UK and German Formula Student competitions this summer for the fourth year in a row. The UK event at Silverstone will feature 149 teams from 34 different countries, while at Hockenheim USM will be competing against 74 of the world's top Combustion teams. It looks set to be a fantastic summer - we'll see you there!
The team are delighted to announce a new partnership with petrochemical giant Shell, who will be providing financial support throughout the 2013 season. We very much appreciate their support and look forward to building a strong relationship as the year progresses.
USM have taken up residence in a cosy corner of James Weir with a brand new CAD suite financed by a substantial grant from the University of Strathclyde Alumni Fund. We're immensely grateful for their generosity and support - the new suite creates a group workspace which will be hugely valuable to the team, allowing effective collaboration between design team members and providing a hub for the team's design activities.
Thanks are also due to Autodesk and 3Dconnexion, who have provided professional CAD software and 3D space mice to make life easier as we build up a complete computer model of our new car.
Long-term partners Accenture have agreed to support USM once again for the 2013 competition season, and we're very glad to have them. Accenture have been supporting the team financially for a number of years, and will be running various events on campus throughout the year in conjuction with USM.
